PEMCO Gets It: They don't care how much you know until they know how much you care

I listened to Rod Brooks (CMO at Pemco) talk about mentoring. He gets it. And he walks the talk. Below are his top 10 Key Observations and Take-Aways

1. The role of a mentor
- advise
- advocate
- challenge
- encourage
- support
- guide
- model (walk the talk)
2. Be secure in who you are
3. Don't feel like you always must have an answer
4. Stay informed and stay current
5. Always be positive and supportive
6. Do more asking than stating
7. Celebrate the joys and the sorrows with equal gusto
8. Don't be surprised by separation
9. Be there for them
10. They don't care how much you know until they know how much you care

Now find someone and get mentoring.

Pandora's revenue contribution to the music industry

I was thinking as I was running today about how much I love Pandora. My thoughts turned to why I love Pandora and the best word to describe why is "discovery." Pandora helps me discover new music. It's the discovery process that I love the most. I then started thinking about how the music industry has benefited from Pandora's discovery. Has anyone done any analysis on how much new revenue Pandora has contributed to the music industry? I realize Pandora can track the click-throughs on its buy button or iTunes or Amazon buttons and then track how many convert into sales but so many times I've purchased a song off of iTunes by directly searching. Pandora has no ideas that it was their discovery that caused a new sale. So I'm curious. Any estimates or thoughts out there?
